This American Sailing Association Accredited course is the highest level course that we offer. To take this course, you must have taken the Basic Keelboat Sailing Standard (ASA 101) and Basic Coastal Cruising Standard (ASA 103).
The student will have a thorough understanding of maritime VHF radios and GMDSS systems, and be able to use class D VHF DSC maritime radio for routine and distress communications in a professional and efficient way.
This 4-hour online and practical class covers the basics of how all internal combustion engines work, the differences between gas and diesel engines, the other systems typically installed on a modern cruising sailboat, as well as how to keep everything maintained and running smoothly.
In this course, you will learn about weather fundamentals, weather tools, and weather decisions for sailors and boaters.
The class begins with basic principles of satellite communications at sea. This includes pointing angles, transmit/receive weather grib, instruments , connections and tracking.
